![Healing Hearts Ministries Internaional [LOGO]](https://www.healinghearts.org/nimages/HHLetterhead_Web700.png) Dear Friend, Recently I was asked by a professor of a conservative Christian seminary, who teaches Biblical Counseling, to come and speak to his seminary students about Healing Hearts. He felt strongly that these students needed to have an understanding of how abortion affects men and women and how to address the aftermath Biblically. His classes were made up of both young and older students all eagerly pursuing education for current and future ministry. During my presentation I felt the Lord pressing me to share with them how many women I have ministered to who had their abortions while attending a Christian University. This may shock some of you but it's true. Allow me to share a personal account of a woman I ministered to... (name changed) Lillian was attending a very prominent Christian University where her fianc`e was also a student. They were one year away from graduation and were planning a June wedding. During the Fall semester they made the choice to sin sexually and in January they received news that they were pregnant.   Both came from Christian homes and had conservative Christian parents. Soon after hearing the surprising news, fear began to set in... and so did reality. If the school found out she was pregnant, she would face expulsion just a few months shy of getting her degree. If their parents found out, they would be terribly disappointed in them. After weeks of agonizing discussions, they felt that an abortion was their only option. Little did they know the aftermath that would follow! Yes, this couple did get married. They had their June wedding and she wore white. All of their relatives cheered them on, but behind closed doors it was a different story. This woman wept as she reflected on what was supposed to be the happiest day of their life, she and her new husband sat on the bed in complete grief and wept over their secret sin. You see, their baby was due the very same month they were married. For years they grieved in secret and their marriage suffered from the pain of locking the truth away... ...until she found hope and healing in Jesus Christ through Healing Hearts. I did not share this whole story in the seminary class, but I wanted to share it with you now to help you understand that the reality of an abortion when faced with an unexpected pregnancy is not just an issue that non-Christians deal with.  According to what we see in ministry, approximately 40% of the women we serve were professing Christians when they had their abortions. Are those women merely trying to cope with every day like the woman in my story?I have talked to numerous pastors' wives who have had abortions and rather than feeling safe and coming forward for healing they have firmly stated, "I will go to my grave before I share this secret with anyone else." I can't imagine how painful it must be to try to minister to other women when you yourself need to be ministered to. We are so busy in the church today trying to reach the world but who is trying to reach the church? If we do not begin to effectively minister to families within the body of Christ, so that they can be healed, what hope are we even able to offer to those who are desperately hurting in the world? Every Sunday, there are tens of thousands of men and women sitting in our churches walking through life with a spiritual limp because of decisions in their past. They are hobbling through life when they could find true freedom in God's Word and be vigorously running the race with all of their might! We have a big job ahead of us!
