A woman's story · Binding Up the Brokenhearted
From "don't cry" to crying for 27 years to crying out to God
For more than twenty years, Michelle carried the hidden weight of an abortion she had as a young college student. She remembers being told not to cry as she entered the abortion clinic. She held back her tears that day—but afterward, she says, “I cried for the next twenty-some years.” What seemed at the time like a way to protect her future left Michelle carrying deep grief, guilt, and shame. She learned to cope with the pain, never realizing how profoundly it had affected her life, her marriage, and her parenting. Years later, Michelle sought help through a post-abortion Bible study. While reading the Psalms, she came to a life-changing realization: she had spent decades crying over what had happened, but she had never truly cried out to the Lord with it. As Michelle began to understand more deeply what Jesus Christ had done for her, the guilt and shame she had carried for so long began to give way to forgiveness, freedom, and healing. "I never knew that I wasn’t free until I was free," Michelle says. Today, her story is one of redemption and a transformed relationship with Christ: “I’m free and I’m healed, and I am in love with Jesus.” Michelle’s testimony offers hope to anyone carrying the hidden pain of a past abortion: there is courage in bringing that pain into the light—and true freedom and healing are found in Christ.
