Dear Friend,

"I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth." ~Psalm 57:9-11

In July, Healing Hearts Ministries was blessed to be able to again send a mission's team to Uganda. This year, Camille Cates, Sue Sanford and Suzanne Tyria were joined by Brad Furges of Pure Life Ministries. God was able to use this team in incredible ways to touch many hearts and lives in Uganda. I'd like to share with you some encouraging excerpts from their blog (www.healedheartsinafrica.blogspot.com). I encourage you to check out the complete blog.

Healed Hearts in Africa

After 23 grueling hours in the air, we are so excited to have finally arrived in Uganda! One look at our dear friend Buyondo, and it was as if we had never left! Soon our new additions to the team - Suzanne and Brad - fit right in. We shared lots of laughter on the 1-1/2 hour drive to our destination, which truly only felt like minutes as we enjoyed fellowshipping together.

Our "home" while we were there was a small room with three single-beds, draped in mosquito netting. We shared a bathroom, and learned to take very quick showers as there was no hot water.
Camille quickly got to work by meeting with a local print shop to discuss printing the bible studies. Currently, she is working on finalizations of the Luganda translation of "The Hem of His Garment", which should be ready for printing soon. "Binding Up the Brokenhearted" has already been translated, but is currently being digitized for ease of printing. As soon as these two projects have been completed, translation of "Wounded Warrior" will begin.

The first Saturday leadership training with 15 of our Ugandan leaders, both men and women was held. We separated almost evenly between the men and the women, with the Healing Hearts US team training the women and Brad, from Pure Life Ministries, talking to and training the men with material from their "Call to Purity" weekend.

Yesu Yebazibwe! Praise Jesus! Our leaders are so strong and determined to seek out the brokenhearted. We heard time and again how "fresh" and needed our ministry is there among the people, especially in the church. Relationships and the family are very much in turmoil daily and our materials have helped leaders in their personal lives as well as counseling others to find healing for the problems that combat them at every corner and to heal over relationships long devastated. Many of the challenges that seem to shake Africa to the core go back to lack of knowing and applying biblical principles to family and the way we are to love and relate to other people. God's Word says in Hosea 4:6, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." Did you notice it said knowledge? Not from lack of food, not from lack of water, not from lack of medical treatment (although we know lack of these things can and will eventually cause death). The primary lacking is knowledge or education of God and His ways. If God's people were educated in His Word and truly had a heart to apply His Word, we could possibly see a great turn around in Africa, both spiritually and physically. We were not alone in our beliefs, as time after time we heard people receive hope and healing for their souls and this same hope for the hearts of the people in their nation.

This trip found four U.S. leaders very much poured out in ministry as they shared the testimonies of Christ's love, hope and healing found through the bible studies when they went through it for themselves. People who heard were drawn in and many times wanted to stay for hours beyond the closing time, just to hear more and celebrate the hope they had heard of in Jesus!

Two of the most touching times of ministry came when we went to Eastern Uganda to share our ministry with Hines Ministries International, a widows and orphans ministry. Spiritually you could sense the darkness in this place, but at the same time clearly see those who were shining brightly for Christ there. It was those bright lights that we were able to extend the ministry to believe if, we are able to return to them one day; we will find faithful workers carrying on the ministry of Healing Hearts. It was a very special blessing to pass on the gift of $1,000 to Hines Ministries International. The generous gift came through the hands of Pure Life Ministries as their men had given a very generous love offering to be used to help those in need. After spending just a few days ministering to the women there, it was truly a blessing to see such a deserving ministry receive help in feeding, clothing and caring for these precious people. Thank you, Pure Life Ministries!

Secondly, we spent our last two days sharing in some of the most impoverished areas that Camille (well traveled in Africa) had ever seen. The first day, the morning rains had hit hard and the ground was a virtual slip and slide for all of us wearing skirts and casual dress shoes. God was faithful to keep us on solid ground, literally, as we hopped over dirty sewage trenches and walked across thin wooden boards to reach those who were hurting. We invited many women in the community to hear the stories of three women from America who had been through similar hurts as they had. Several times along the way we literally found people stopping us just to inquire about and receive the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We can't explain it, but it just happened. Sweet moments of sharing salvation with a group of women on a porch tucked in a corner of the slums, or a man who stood in his doorway asking if we had good news to share with him after his neighbor lady rejected our invitation, or the woman who boldly told Sue Sanford she wanted "it", what Sue was sharing about, "now, now" (meaning right now!). Our last day in Uganda, we gathered in a small wooden shack with around 20 ladies from the slum area to share the testimony time we had invited them to the day before. Once again, we heard the response from Ugandans that they didn't believe that Americans had or could suffer from the same heart hurts that they did. Now, they heard the stories and believed and many, many received the hope that Christ Jesus could do the same for them.

Once again, we were reunited with the wonderful folks of The Comforter's Center as we were able to deliver 100 MAAMA Kits to their surprise. Veronica, the Director, was pleasantly surprised and said they were down to only one or two left to give to expectant mothers to take to the hospital, so that they can safely birth their babies. It's difficult for us to comprehend, but mothers in labor must provide their own medical supplies in order to be allowed a hospital room and care to help bring their babies safely into this world. We were told stories of many women and babies dying as they were forced to deliver without help and without care in the waiting room of the clinic or even outside because they didn't have the money to provide their own MAAMA Kit. An additional 100 MAAMA Kits were left with our Healing Hearts Uganda leaders to aid them in helping women they minister to as well. Truly this was a heart-warming time to be able to provide for those in need of help bringing new life into this world!
