Healing Hearts Ministries Internaional [LOGO]

Dear Friend,

"But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest." Matthew 9:36-38 NKJV

On Friday, January 7th, Susie Alicandro, Pat Shepherd, Linda Tracy and I went to Hope Place, Union Gospel Mission's women's & children's shelter in Seattle, WA, to share a little about Healing Hearts Ministries and to see if there was an interest in a group(s) this trimester. In a community meeting, with all residents in attendance, I shared a little about the ministry, my personal testimony and then had asked three of the ladies who had been through a Healing Hearts group in the past to share how it had impacted their life. It was truly amazing what these women shared and how doing either The Hem of His Garment or Binding Up the Broken Hearted study had given them deeper walk with Christ. They shared it helped them to really know Him, and that digging into God's Word in our study helped them in every other class they were taking at Hope Place. After these three precious women shared, another resident asked if she could say something regarding the last woman to share. She said that when this woman had first come to Hope Place, she didn't know if she was ever going to "get it", but recently had noticed a dramatic change in her. She now understood it was because of this gal's involvement in the Healing Hearts group, that she truly did "get it"! GO GOD!!

In the passage of scripture above, in verse 37, when Jesus is referring to "the harvest", the Lord spoke of the spiritual harvest of souls for salvation. The three women who shared their testimonies about Healing Hearts did not really know the Lord of the harvest when they first came into our bible study group.... now they do! There was such a huge response to our presentation at Hope Place that I had to send out an SOS to all the leaders in the Seattle area for help to reap the harvest! We had 11 women sign up for The Hem of His Garment and 6 for Binding up the Brokenhearted. We began our groups in late January. Even though we had only just met these precious women, our hearts were knit together. We are praising the Lord for the work He is doing in them. Our groups are still in session as this goes to print, and God is doing a marvelous work in each woman.

The following is a quote from Nancy Leigh DeMoss, "Praise defeats Satan - Satan hates praise, because Satan hates God and anything that exalts or pleases God. One of Satan's strategies is to get us to focus on ourselves - our needs, our problems, our circumstances, our feelings. When we lift our eyes up, though they may be filled with tears, and choose to praise the Lord, Satan's plan is defeated and God is victorious in our lives." These women are choosing to lift their eyes and focus on God, and we are seeing Satan's plan defeated and God's will advanced in their lives.

Thank you so much for your continued prayers for Hope Place.

Respectfully submitted,
Susan Owen

Youth Ministry Message

Being an advocate for abstinence until marriage carries with it some strange habits! For instance, while I waited in the doctor's office, I picked up Family Circle magazine and instead of looking at the latest family-meal recipe, I zoomed to page 60 and voraciously read the article on teens and "sexting" titled "Sext Ed"!

Although this atrocious phenomenon has been around for a few years, 'sexting' is getting ever-popular (and faster) as technology advances. Whether you are very familiar with this topic or only know what you've heard about it on the news (like me, I'm sad to say), I wanted to share just a couple of statistical facts that might shock you.

According to a research and marketing group called AK Tweens, "Thirty percent of girls 9-15 said they've sent explicit messages or photos of themselves [via text or internet]."

The article goes on to say, "In 2008 the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned pregnancy found that 20% of kids 13 to 19 had sent partially or completely nude photos of themselves or someone they knew."

Sadly, a high school senior in Cincinnati hung herself because of public embarrassment after her ex-boyfriend forwarded an explicit photo of her. This was also quoted in the article. If you want to read the whole article online you can find it at http://www.familycircle-digital.com/familycircle/201002?folio=60&#pg66.

"Sexting" is just another example of how the sexual perversion in our country is trickling down to the young and running rampantly via technology. These devastating wounds to the heart are coming through new avenues we never would've imagined even fifteen years ago! Our girls are hurting, and in many cases, in danger and helpless.

Because of this great need to help our girls renew their minds with truth from God's Word, the First Love bible study is being written.

As I send this email, I am very close to the first draft of lesson five being completed. However, there is so much still to accomplish! Please continue to pray for the resource of "time" for me. As a wife, mom of three, an educator and with all my responsibilities, things can encroach on my time for writing. I always appreciate the love and support from all of you. I simply want to continue to update you on how to pray and help stir your hearts for these girls who need the truth that just might save their hearts and souls.

In His Love,
