Healing Hearts Ministries Internaional [LOGO]

Dear Friend,

This month I would like to share with you what the Lord has been doing in our prison ministry. The following was written by Jenny H. who facilitates our ministry in Dwight Correctional Center.

-Sue Liljenberg

May 4, 2006:
I've just returned from the Volunteer Banquet at the Dwight Correctional Center for women in Dwight, IL.

Dwight Correctional Center is a maximum security prison that holds around 1,000 incarcerated women give or take a few hundred at any given time. Healing Hearts has been ministering to these women for the past two years. My heart is full of joy and pride tonight as I just watched some of the girls we have known from the beginning sing and dance their hearts out before the Lord. Each year at a banquet the inmates put on a small, but anointed by the Lord, performance for the volunteers. I couldn't be more proud of these women, some young and some not so young, if they were my own children. I have seen the depth of their souls, their deepest pains and hurts laid open bare before the Lord and I have seen the healing that Jehova Rapha has brought them.

When we began to minister two years ago, little did we know that the Lord would bring us a few women that would be instrumental in carrying out His plan for Dwight Correctional Center. In our first few groups the Lord sent us five women who are now being discipled to become Healing Hearts leaders. Over the last two years we have ministered to 37 women. Considering that Dwight holds a thousand women 37 women seems like a very small number. It is small if you think of the percentages, 3.7% to be exact. But if you think of it as the Lord sees it, it is a HUGE number of lives being set free from sin and bondage and being made whole to serve in His kingdom. And that is exactly what is happening. These five women who love the Lord with all their hearts will be serving the Lord at Dwight, unless the Lord provides differently, for many years to come and some for life. We only have a small handful of Healing Hearts leaders that can go into the prison once a week to minister, some traveling two hours each way. God is raising up leaders within the prison walls that are able to minister seven days a week and reach women we have no way of reaching.

I wish you could meet each of these women... you would fall in love with them immediately and want to adopt them as your own. They are godly women who put my walk with the Lord to shame, they have families and they have hopes and dreams just like you and I. They made a wrong choice or got caught up in their circumstances but for the grace of God there go you and I. They know what it is to be forgotten by those that are supposed to love them and care for them through thick and thin. Each one, Carrie, Heather, Willette, Vicky and Tammy, is special, unique and dearly loved in the eyes of God. He has not forgotten them but is training them up to be His servants, His mouthpiece and vessel in a place that is dark and full of the devils work. They are bringing light and hope. I am reminded of the kind of hope Abraham had, and Paul talked about in Romans. Abraham believed in God - the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not, as though they were. Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed... These women have been written off by society, considered dead. But God in His infinite mercy had other plans for them and gave life to their spiritually dead bodies. Against all hope, they dared to believe that things could be different and they were right.
As these women are being discipled and trained they are reaching and touching lives. They are making a difference within the prison system. I am reminded of Corrie Ten Boom and the difference she and her sister Betsie made in the concentration camps in Germany. "Betsie, never strong in health, grew steadily weaker and died on December 16, 1944. Some of her last words to Corrie were, " ...(we) must tell them what we have learned here. We must tell them that there is no pit so deep that He is not deeper still. They will listen to us, Corrie, because we have been here."

Carrie, Heather, Willette, Vicky and Tammy they have been there. They have a story to tell, the story of the redeeming love of God. They need our prayers, encouragement, love and support. I watched these gals at the banquet sing and dance their hearts out for the Lord, full of praise and worship to a God who has redeemed them. Oh how sweet the victory of Jesus! - Jenny

Prayer Requests

  • Prison Ministry - Please keep the prison ministry in your prayers. It is very exciting every week to see the prayer request for the ladies we are ministering to and to see how God reaches through those prayers and changes hearts for His Glory. Pray for the leaders and those who are being trained to lead.
  • Ukraine - Please pray for us as we continue to transfer the ministry over to the women of Ukraine.
  • E-Ministry - We only have 90-100 spots available for clients and have been filling most of them on a regular basis since we launched the new site. Please continue to pray for clients and leaders who have multiple clients. Pray that our unsaved clients will come to know Jesus.
  • Ministry Relocation - Pray for wisdom, direction and finances. Pray for God to lead us to the appropriate office space and to give us direction regarding leasing or purchasing a building.
  • Finances - Pray that God will abundantly bless us as we grow and prepare to establish a headquarters office.
