Dear Friend,

In our last prayer letter, I shared my conviction to pray for our nation and its leaders. Many of you have written that God has also placed that burden upon your heart. It's a comfort to know that we are praying together, trusting that our prayers will move the hand of God and that our nation will repent and return to the only One who can save us.

Right now, I think many people are feeling as if they are being pressed in from all sides, almost to the point of being crushed. I can certainly relate. My husband Gary, who turns 64 this month, has worked for the same company for 41 years and would now like to retire. However, we have seen our 401K lose half of its value, and we have been trying to sell our house since last April, yet have now lost 40% of the equity in our home and have had no offers. I think there are many people right now who are in a similar situation. Although this is a hard place to be, we know that God will not allow anything to happen to us that is not for our benefit in some way. This is a time of testing that should make us draw near to God and trust Him, not looking at what might have been but looking at what is.

There are many who wonder, "Why Lord! I've served You, I've paid my tithe, I love You and desire to walk in Your truth and yet, we suffer with all those who despise You and who have rejected You." This is a hard thing to understand and it causes us to really trust God. As I have pondered these things over this past year, the Lord has continually brought before me the scripture in Hebrews 12:1 that says "Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin that so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us."

As I look at this great cloud of witnesses, one in particular comes to mind and that is Daniel. You see, Daniel was like many of us in that he was committed to serving God and doing what was right before God, but one day, according to Daniel 1:1, Daniel's world was turned upside down when Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, came to Jerusalem and besieged it. At that point Daniel's whole life was upended. He was taken from his family and his home and surrounded by evil which he could never have anticipated. The scriptures tell us that King Nebuchadnezzar sought out those in whom there was no defect, who were good-looking, showing intelligence in every branch of wisdom, endowed with understanding and discerning knowledge. Evil sought out God's best to be used for evil purposes.

Daniel 1:8 says, "Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself." This lesson in scripture ministers to my heart. You see, Daniel was a man of integrity. A man who knew his God and knew that as long as he walked right with God, that God would be with him and that all would be well.

It's very difficult to live in this world and not be defiled by it. As a ministry, we have come upon many forks in the road where we have had to make a decision to follow God or to follow the wisdom of man. Even though at the time some decisions didn't make sense, we chose to follow God regardless of the cost, because God has called us to be a ministry of integrity. There were times when we, like Daniel, had the choice to take either the easy road or the narrow road. I'm so thankful that we chose the narrow road.

If there has ever been a time to re-think our lives, it is now. Hebrews 12 tells us to lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin that so easily entangles us, so that we can run the race with endurance. I think all of us can examine our lives and see things that need to be cast off, things that are weighing us down and keeping us from running the race with endurance, decisions we have made that make sense according to the world, but were not decisions that God would have had us make. We can't undo the past, but we can walk forward from here and become people of integrity who trust God with all of our hearts and are willing to do what is right regardless of the cost.

We are the people of God who have been called out to be different. We are not to look like the world but are to be the fragrance of Christ in a lost world. Please pray for Healing Hearts that we will continue to do what God has called us to do regardless of the cost, that we will walk in a worthy manner and glorify God in all that we say and do.

We live in exciting times. We have been given an opportunity to let God's light shine through us and for Him to be glorified in everything we say and do. We have the ability to give hope to those who are lost and broken. Now is the time to let our lights shine.

Thank you, my friend, for your prayers and for your faithful support of Healing Hearts. Lives are being saved and healed and God is being glorified.
