Dear Friend,

On September 11th Teresa Ortega and I returned home from Africa. Thank you for your prayers and financial gifts that made it possible for us to complete this mission. It is not possible for me to share everything regarding the trip, so I will do my best to give you a brief overview of what took place and how you can continue to pray for Africa.

We spent the first six days in Zambia. We were blessed with the opportunity, through the Crisis Pregnancy Center, to partner in ministry with "Church on the Rock" and meet Pastor Edward & Barbara Mwansa. The ministry this pastor and his congregation are doing in the small town of Kitwe, Zambia is amazing. They truly believe that life is a gift from God, from the womb to the grave, and have established ministry in all areas to meet the many needs of their community. The Crisis Pregnancy Center was just one small part of their ministry.

They also manage an orphanage that currently houses 33 orphan children for which they are establishing a Christian school to educate them. They have a home for girls, are establishing a maternity home and a boys' ranch, and oversee a feeding program that provides two meals per day to starving children.

In addition, Pastor Edward has a burden to see other pastors discipled in God's Word and devotes as much of his time as possible to achieve that end. Training was limited to only a few hours each day because many of the people work during the day. Although only a few were actually being trained to lead the Healing Hearts study during each session, the tiny meeting room at the center was packed with people who were hungry for God's Word and healing. As principles were taught from God's Word, I saw God speaking and ministering to the participants' hearts. The most powerful moments were when we were able to share our testimonies with the ladies and encourage them to contact Barbara at the center to enroll in the Healing Hearts study. Key leaders in Zambia are Emely Chiwaya and Tina Mumba, with Barbara Mwansa as the supervisor of the ministry. These ladies have been assigned a Healing Hearts leader who will mentor them via email and help get their ministry started. The needs are endless in this small town. Please pray that God will give us wisdom to know when and how to help.

The next six days of our trip were spent in Uganda. Uganda was very different from Zambia. Many of our participants there were not as spiritually mature in God's Word which made getting started a bit harder.

Because a good foundation is so important, we began with basic sanctity of life teaching from God's Word which led us to the reason women are spiritually and emotionally wounded due to abortion. At the end of training, I shared my testimony. Ann Nelson from Life International Ministries warned us that women in these countries are very private, so she was amazed at what she witnessed after I shared my story. Women all over the room were standing and repenting of their abortions and coming forward for prayer! Ann said that she had never seen anything like it before; it was obvious that God was moving the women to share their pain and sin. Teresa Ortega shared her story the next morning, followed by additional teaching regarding counseling God's way. We ended our time by training just a few people from the larger crowd so that they could start the Bible study. This group included our key leaders in Uganda - Veronica Nakyewe and Harriet Walude. You might remember that Harriet was seriously injured in a car accident one month before we arrived and was only able to attend the last day of training. She is recovering well but still needs our prayers for complete healing.

Finally, there is a tremendous need for Bibles in Uganda. Please pray that God will provide an opportunity to provide Bibles to the center, to accompany the now available Bible study. Shipping is very expensive requiring us to be creative in shipping. We are also considering delivery through short term missionaries, if possible. If you would like to make a designated donation for Bibles, please earmark your check "Bibles for Africa."

Please pray that there will be much fruit from this trip and for God to show us when we are to return.

  • Missions Africa- Praise God for those hearts He reached in Zambia and Uganda. Praise also for Sue and Teresa's safe return.
  • New Leaders - Praise the Father for the seven new leaders that just completed training September 20-23.
  • E-ministry - God is currently reaching 98 hurting individuals through HH on-line studies!
  • Prison Ministry - The ministry is grateful to the Lord for re-opening the door to the Dwight Women's Correctional facility!

  • Current Leaders - Please pray for steadfastness for HH leaders (including seven new leaders) as they step out in the Lord to share the Word! Pray also that they, as well as their families, will remain physically and spiritually healthy.
  • Ministry Clients - Pray for all of the men and women currently going through a study - that the enemy would not undermine the hope and healing being offered by the Lord Jesus, and that the unsaved will come to know Jesus.
  • Prison Ministry - Pray that ministry will continue unabated at Dwight Women's Correctional facility and that the women's hearts and eyes will be opened to the truth.

Teresa Rinker, Barbara Riedberger, and Kathy Kennard departed for Ukraine on September 24 and will return October 12. Please lift them in prayer as they mentor the Ukrainian leaders, provide training and encouragement, and reach out to new people and organizations in that part of the world. Our prayer is that they are infused with the Holy Spirit as they reach out to those who need hope and healing.

Please pray that the enemy will not hinder their work, and for a great harvest of hearts open to receive the Word.

Thank you again for your prayers and for your financial gifts. May the Lord bless and keep you always.

In His love

International Director
