Dear Friend,


On July 4, 2017, we will be celebrating America’s 241st birthday. As a young nation, we survived many difficult times and tests that defined us as a country.  The Revolutionary War, fought from 1775-1783, was a test of our courage and convictions. Then there was the Civil War, fought from 1860-1865—a war that shook our nation to its very core.  In the last century we came through WWI, the Great Depression, and WWII.  We fought to defend this great nation and the values it stood for, and we survived. 

The difference between those difficult times and where we are now is that America has lost its moral compass.  We have become a lawless nation; dishonesty and greed rule our political class and socialism is becoming the norm. The practice of abortion on demand up until the time of birth seems not to have had any effect on our conscience. We are now facing a national debt of 19.9 trillion dollars; some economists believe that once we have passed the 21 trillion mark, we will be at the point of no return. 

There is a message for us today in the words of Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg address:

“Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate -- we cannot consecrate -- we cannot hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”


There have been too many sacrifices made for us to not take a stand. Out of concern for our nation, Reverend Franklin Graham traveled to every state capital and called God’s people to pray for our country.  I believe that was a clarion call to awaken God’s people to the serious condition of our nation.  If we don’t repent and humble ourselves and pray, we will perish.  As we pray, we need to ask God how we can engage our culture.  We cannot change hearts and minds or the direction of our country if we isolate ourselves within our church walls.

Like the founders of our country, we need to inject our influence into our communities through medicine, science, education, economics, law, literature, media, military and public service.  One area of our culture that we have abandoned is our education system.  We have allowed liberal, ungodly thinking to take over and we are now reaping the consequences.  Universities that once had a Christian foundation are now breeding grounds for ungodly principles and liberal thought.  We can no longer be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  I don’t believe that God is finished with America.  There is much work to be done.

Will you please join me this month and pray for our Nation?  We must pray for our elected officials.  Pray for them to have wisdom and to receive direction from above.  Pray for boldness to do what is right regardless of the cost.  Pray for conviction from above, and pray for their safety.  God can reach and move even the hardest of hearts.  There is too much at stake.

Over 40 years ago Francis Schaeffer said:

“The central problem of our age is not liberalism or modernism, nor the threat of communism, nor even the threat of rationalism and the monolithic consensus which surrounds us. All these are dangerous but not the primary threat. The real problem is this: the church of the Lord Jesus Christ, individually or corporately, tending to do the Lord’s work in the power of the flesh rather than of the Spirit. The central problem is always in the midst of the people of God, not in the circumstances surrounding them.  If Christians win a battle by using worldly means, they have really lost.”


Every day at Healing Hearts, as we answer the call that God has given us to “Bind up the Brokenhearted,” we engage in our communities by pointing hurting individuals to Jesus Christ.  We are committed to reaching the broken hearts within the church as well as those who are outside of the church, hopeless and in need of a Savior.  Sometimes it’s a daunting task but we move forward trusting that the God who called us will give us direction and provision. 

As you pray for our nation, please continue to pray for us.  The moral condition of our country is the worst I have seen in my lifetime, and the battle is raging—but if God goes before us the victory is ours.  Please prayerfully consider donating today and partnering with us for the sake of the Gospel.
